Learning Karate Prevents Bullying From Happening to Your Child
Parents you must come to the understanding that training in karate builds up your child’s confidence in him or herself when interaction with other children, which in turn will prevent your child from being bullied.
Strong Minded
It takes three things to be present for bullying to occur; the bully of course, the situation and last but not least a target. Body language, the target sends off signals that they are weak and easily intimidated. Even on the most basic and primal level of appearing more confident that the bully will cut down any negative attention they receive from bullies. Learning karate empowers children with knowledge courage and confidence because they have the skill set to defend themselves, if necessary.
Preventing a situation from Escalating
Here at Hughes Karate-Do Sensei Tony Hughes, encourage all of his students no matter of age to walk away from, and use the tools taught to them to diffuse a volatile situation keeping it from escalating. Our students are aware that if the bullying continues the harassment, he or she will need to stand tall or he will be perceived by the bully as being a passive target. Your children learn to look into their bullies’ eyes and stand tall. The bullies MO is not to get into a fight. They want someone to roll over and cower. They don’t expect someone to fight back!
Take Action
Our style originated in Okinawa, Japan, The style was born out of shear need to survive. If you get through me, you will kill my family. So the karate had to ‘work’, especially when the invaders were trained military, going against farmers. We teach “life preservation”, karate is not about un-provoked violence, it is about preventing violence. Someone will have to make you fight. The saying we refer to is this, “you will give them a reason why it was a mistake to threaten your life.” ~Sensei Hughes. If an altercation does occur the untrained parties will be exhausted within moments of the attack. If trained in karate they will have the stamina to withstand the altercation. Hughes Karate-do in Chandler teaches them to defeat their attacker and ensuring they not be the target again. It shows that your child has the confidence to stand up for themselves.
Ultimately we hope no child have to ever experience Bullying and need to use physical skills he/she learned in Karate and be able to prevent any altercation. Although you know as well as I, we always need a ‘Just in case’ plan. This will make your child Happier, full of life and confident to strive for the things they want in life.
